Dynamic ergonomy: Always in perfect balance

A HÅG chair balances the body in an intuitive way, ensuring that you are seated correctly. According to our philosophy, the next sitting position is always the best. All of our chairs are designed to allow you to move your entire body, without having to think about it. This lets you perform better while safeguarding your well-being. You are always prepared for a new movement and a new task!

Designed for the human body

The body is not made for sitting still but for movement and variation.

We were intrigued that people had once been able to sit for long hours on horseback. We understood that this had something to do with upright posture and the active use of the body even though riders were essentially sitting. We realised that our feet play an important role when we sit for extended periods. For riders, the stirrups enabled the upper body to be more active when sitting – this was a key observation since active arms are essential in office work!

We also drew inspiration from kids, believing they had much to teach us. Their “workday” is extremely varied, with constant movement and new postures. As they grow up, they are increasingly told to “sit still”. We aren’t designed to be still but to lead active lives.

Movement and variation

We are not designed to be still but for movement and variation.

Movement is natural, necessary, nourishing and comfortable. Life is movement. With our way of life having changed so dramatically, movement while sitting has become crucial to staying healthy and working efficiently. When we sit at work, concentrating on a task, we may move our hands, arms and head but we often simply “forget” about our legs. They remain “parked” and static. This affects the whole body. Ever noticed how tired you get after sitting for long periods? HÅG chairs inspire you to move your feet.

Always perfectly in balance

Balance is the best starting point for movement.

To achieve dynamic sitting you need a Balanced Movement Mechanism™ and user-friendly controls to personalise the settings of your chair. Once balance has been achieved, your body controls the chair, deciding when to move and when to sit still in a given position.

Movement of the whole body without having to think about it.

The Balanced Movement Mechanism™ is unique to HÅG chairs! In a HÅG chair, the front edge of the seat tilts upwards when you lean backwards and down when you lean forwards. This stimulates ankle movement, in turn activating the circulation mechanisms of your lower legs (“the peripheral heart”), enhancing circulation throughout the body. The result is greater energy and improved efficiency at work.
